Domestic musk duck is a special breed of a very large bird, which was firstly discovered by a man in the middle of the second millennium in Mexico. Then it was domesticated and transported to Europe, from where it spread all over the world.
The russian name "indoutka" appeared because of the similarity of the given bird with the duck (“utka”) and the turkey (“indeika”), in particular, because of the reddish-colored growths on the head. But as a matter of fact there is no connection between this species of bird and the turkey or duck. The English name “musk duck” appeared due to the acute smell of musk from this bird.
The weight of the musk duck can reach six kilograms, sometimes the specimens are even heavier. Musk duck eggs are very delicious and large, are considered very useful for health and nutritious. In fact, musk duck meat refers to elite farm products.
